The NEET exam is held for admission to undergraduate medical courses (MBBS/BDS) in government or private medical/dental colleges approved by the Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India. Initially conducted by CBSE, the exam has been administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) since 2019. Approximately 541 MBBS colleges (excluding AIIMS and JIPMER) participate in NEET, offering around 82,926 medical seats. In 2023, 20,87,462 students took the NEET exam.

The NEET UG exam is administered in pen and paper mode for admission to MBBS and BDS programs in India. NEET UG 2024 will have a duration of 3 hours and 20 minutes. According to the NEET 2024 exam pattern, there will be a total of 200 questions, of which only 180 need to be answered. Each question is worth 4 marks, making the total marks for NEET 2024 720.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCI, PIO, and Foreign Nationals are eligible.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 17 years old by admission or before December 31st of the joining year.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for NEET UG applicants.
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Must have individually passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.
    • Minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
  • Provisional Candidates: Students appearing for Class XII in 2024 can provisionally take NEET 2024, subject to meeting conditions later.
  • SC/ST/OBC Aggregate Relaxation: SC/ST/OBC candidates have a relaxed aggregate requirement of 40% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
  • Pursuing MBBS/BDS Abroad: Indian Citizens/Overseas Citizens of India must qualify NEET 2024 to pursue MBBS/BDS from a foreign Medical/Dental Institute.
